It’s Fourth of July week and we’re just returning from being outside and camping with my parents. Here’s the kicker – the four of us don’t love to camp this week normally. Truthfully, it’s the other campers that ruin it for us; lots of noise, fireworks, and the campsites are just busier than normal.
So this year, we looked to find a new experience which is how we ended up Mulberry Pond in Hiawatha, KS. We picked this spot because it was central between us in North Dakota and my parents in Colorado – everyone had to drive about the same amount of time. Plus we found the *best* campsite.
For 5 glorious days, we rented out the only two RV spots at Mulberry Pond. Each full-service RV spot features 30/50/110 Amp hookups, picnic tables, a briquette bbq, and a campfire ring. The parking area is for both RVs – which is perfect for camping with another family.
What made this spot so great was the quiet. There were no other campers – just us on our side of the pond and our wonderful hosts, Meryl and Staci, on the other side of the pond.
The four of us (and all three dogs) love to kayak and paddleboard and the pond was the perfect size for that. We brought along a couple of inner tubes to float on, and I loved sitting in my tube and reading a book.
All four of us love each and every day of our 5 days. We were able to have pups off leash, since they stayed right by the campers – which was so nice! No long leashes getting tangled on everything and everyone, which was a huge plus.
Olly and I really enjoyed their beautiful sunflowers (Kansas is called the Sunflower State for a reason!).
